Wonder Girls’ Sohee for CeCi Magazine March 2012
Sweet Curiosity About Sohee
A favorable impression begins with an initial curiosity. “What is [she] giving that look?” “What is [she] trying to say?” & explore further through such questions. The real Sohee may not come clean on TV. But in terms of generating curiosity, she has been very capable of doing this.
Wherever I see Sohee, she has a strong sense of presence that gives me pause for thought. She is a very charismatic girl, & somehow I always ended up wanting to analyze that appeal. I told her she was oozing this sense of presence merely by sitting quietly alone: how did she do it? “I am just being myself. Haha. But thank you for that comment,” she replied shyly. The following are Sohee’s answers during the interview:
MY 20’S I’m already 21 years old. How I wish to remain unchanged forever. Then no matter what happens in the future, there won’t be any regrets when I turn 30. Whether it’s work or being true to myself.
MY CHARACTER I don’t like anything ambivalent. During work, I am serious with even the tiny details. Recently on ‘Running Man’, someone asked if I have a competitive streak. I replied that I will immerse deeply into whatever I like or am interested in.
MY FACE I have many facial expressions. Haha!
MY STYLING I think balance is key. Everything must not be over the top. Material, color, etc. must be in terms of evenness.
EXERCISE It helps a lot that I get to dance onstage & in the practice studio. I have a great appetite. So whenever I have eaten my fill, I would go for a walk for do some other exercise.
ADVICE JYP says to always be humble & be grateful.
LUCK The greatest luck I got since debuting was being able to go to America. I wasn’t sure initially whether it was right or wrong to go to the USA. But I am certain now that it was the right thing to do.
USA LIFE New York is such a metropolis. Being exposed to many diverse cultures has broadened my horizons. There’s so much I can say, like having met so-&-so, learned such-&-such, already eaten so-&-such, & so on. It has been a very happy time.
ENGLISH I learned English together with the other group members. But physically going to America & experiencing the cultural & language differences has been very hard. During the album recording in the USA, it was grueling with the pitching, tempo, emoting, & needing to repeat a single English word hundreds of times. After toiling to a finish, we arranged for over 10 students to [test-hear]. Anything they couldn’t make out or understand meant we must go back into the studio & re-record. I was, like, I could not express just how distressing that was. I ended up crying a lot due to this.
MY WONDER GIRLS If I had gone to America alone as a solo artiste, I definitely would not have lasted at all. But having the 5 of us together, as a group, it has been gratifying & is my greatest boost.
